Corporate Identity | Breda’s Museum

The Breda’s Museum hosts a great variety of art pieces on the history of Breda. The museum itself can only put some of these items on public display. Their new identity was developed with the idea of presenting a platform for all the (forgotten) pieces from the archive.
A visual style is created with the white stencil logo as a framework for the diverse and colourful pieces of art.

Re-furn | Graduation Work of Sam Hansen,
Interior Stylist

Sam Hansen developed a campagne giving people an incentive to reuse old furniture. She took photos of four pieces of furniture in their old and new condition. Sam wanted to confront people and make them feel guilty so I designed her book with one side showing old furniture in a bad way highlightening only the negative words. When you flip around the book you enter the same essay from the positive side with the old furniture given a new place. The side stitched cover shows furniture before and after they were reused being the cover for the negative or positive side of the story. The big format, elaborate use of pictures and big typography add up to the books challenging character that sets people to think about their behavior.

Walter Nikkels und Räumlichkeit in der Buchtypografie | Final Essay at AKI
ArtEZ academy

I’m fond of typography so I decided to write my essay about Walter Nikkels who fascinated me in different ways. I like his clear typography but most of all his metaphorical view about it. As a German studying in the Netherlands I was also curious about the fact that he works both in The Netherlands and in Germany. I compared two books he designed ‘Makunaima’ and ‘Burgerlijk Wetbook’ regarding his philosophy about three-dimensionality. In addition I interviewed him about his work in the Netherlands and Germany and the cultural differences. I made a three-dimensional cover photo for my essay and finished the inside with saddle stitching.

20 years of HEC | The Centre of Expertise

A festive reporting on the history of The Centre of Expertise (HEC). HEC plays an advising as well as anticipating role for public organizations. This fact is translated in the book design by placing milestones of HEC next to important public events from the same year. These events form red line in the book accompanied by interviews, quotes and photos giving the feeling of place and time. The gate fold cover with die cut rhomb shows in a graphic way that HEC has not changed but become bigger through the years. The book is finished with a metallic ink and UV varnish to give it a festive look.

Poster ‘Passie’ | Breda's Museum

The typography in this design proposal for the museum shows that it’s all about ‘Passion’ which means saying goodbye and letting go. Aside from showing pieces of art the exhibition is dedicated to bishop Muskens who is retiring.
